the goose
Last Sunday evening, I was driving along near my home here in the Forest City with Caitlin and she was turned toward me in her seat talking. I turned to her to answer when I saw (at the last second, mind you) a Canada goose flying INTO MY CAR! I yelled, braked, and the goose came crashing over the roof/windshield with a sickening thud. Caitlin screamed (and I mean SCREAMED--I had never heard my wife yell like that before before!) and as I looked in the rearviewmirror the goose was walking dazedly on the road, cars bearing down on it. I pulled into the gas station (we were on our way there and it was another 100 metres up the road from the scene of the crime) and comforted Caitlin who was quite shaky and even a bit teary. It was so strange because, for me, though everything happened so quickly, it was slowed down so that I saw the goose flying into the car in slow motion, saw it's face pressed across the windshield, and looked it right in the eye. It was actually a really creepy experience and I think that the goose must have had something wrong with it mentally to fly into my car in broad daylight. I'll tell you, it had made for a great story...

Although I am a lover of animals, and never want any to be hurt, this story makes me laugh. What a great thing to read on a Monday morning. Thanks B.
I must admit, as we have already discussed on this Blog before, that Canada Geese, though regal and beautiful in many ways, are often considered the 'rats' of the air. I personally hold this thought after seeing the distruction of my most beloved Camp Imadene property by these birds. I have to confess that Canada Geese are one of the few things I will shoot a pellet at (well, at least a small plastic BB) in order to chase away.
wow...matty...
can't remember when i last laughed so hard.. thanks for the chuckle on this gloomy monday morning!
how you and caitlin have recovered from the goose horror...
