Wide Mouth Mason Live @ Sugar

As per usual, they were phenomenal. High energy, virtuousic playing, incredible tightness, great setlist. Their stand-in drummer was really good and a more than able sub for Sawfan. Earl was his funky best on bass, interacting with the crowd like crazy as he always does. Shaun (the Jedi of the six string) was... well...the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I digress. Anyway, like I was saying, the show was incendiary, but it took off into the stratosphere during the encore as they ripped into Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" (their absolute best cover, or so I thought) before segueing into a full version of "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" by Jimi Hendrix!!!! It was INCREDIBLE! Shaun Verreault conjured up the spirit of Hendrix like no other guitarist I have ever heard, including, if you can believe it, Stevie Ray Vaughan. It was the single most potent and beautiful piece of guitar wizardry and showmanship I have ever witnessed. Verreault even played the guitar with his teeth! That man really can do no wrong on stage in my opinion. Monster tone, chops I would kill for, and a voice with wicked range and dynamic, this guy is the complete package and it is no wonder he is the guitarist I wish I could play like above all others. Meeting him and Earl after the show was a real charge too as they were both sincere, excited that we came out to see them play, and as humble as could be. For anyone out there who has never seen this band live, GO AND SEE THEM! You will not be disappointed!
