Randy's Cheap Shot: A Retrospective

I want to begin by letting everyone know that the subject of this blog, Randy Hein, is my pastor and I love and respect him very much. Nonetheless, what I am about to recount for you WAS cheap and deserves to be brought to light for public consumption/discussion.

I was cleaning my house one Saturday afternoon when my roommate picked up the ringing phone and told me that Randy was calling. He needed an electric guitarist for Sunday night and asked if I could fill in for his regular guy. Being one of the kindest people that I know, I readily agreed. I showed up for practice the next day in one of my Toronto Maple Leafs shirts. Rehearsal went well, with a minimum of comments on the shirt (FYI: Randy is a die-hard Canucks fan as much as I am a Leafs fan, but knows I like the Canucks as well). We played that night and it also went well. After the service was over, Randy spreads wide his arms and starts to thank me for filling in at such short notice and as I trustingly move into his embrace: HE HOCKEY SWEATERS ME! For those of you who do not know this term, it involves reaching back and pulling the back of someone's shirt over their head. After blinding me (the obvious object of the 'hockey sweatering' strategem) he proceeds to punch me in the stomach and call me a traitor for going against his beloved Canucks. Unbelievable! He uses the hug of brotherly love, affection, and trust as a tool to ensnare me in his web of evil over-the-top Canuck fandom.

So, I need my readers to weigh in with their verdict: Was Randy's deceptive hug merited or was it the uber-cheap shot that I believe it to be? I await your decision...

Well, you certainly paint yourself as the saint in this one ...

I only let you wear that infernal shirt through the evening because my mom always told me to "love the sinner, hate the sin".

I think it was a completely appropriate response to your provocation.

Well, let me first say that I think the term you are looking for is being 'jerseyed.'

That said, I think any way to pull the old 'jerseying' out of the hat is always worth it. Such a classic move and oh so effective. Props on Randy for the use of the brotherly love method to ripping you good.
