Randy Hein's Lewis/Tolkien Seminar--Part II
The second part of Randy's Lewis/Tolkien seminar suffered from there not being nearly enough time to cover the material, which was not his fault, but rather just because of the sheer amount of "stuff" that can be found and examined in Lewis' books. I feel like I could go all day with Randy pouring over every detail of the Narnia Chronicles so 90 minutes just wasn't enough. Once again, Randy came with all guns firing and shared insights, however brief, about the books (books with which I am pretty familiar) that I had never previously been aware of nor thought of. His idea that 'Prince Caspian' is a loosely autobiographical account of Lewis himself was a stroke of sheer genius (yes, Randy, it would make an excellent doctoral thesis. You should take the ball and run with it!). Hearing chunks of the books read aloud, as Randy believes they are meant to be read, was enjoyable and I took a turn reading aloud to the group (I have read them aloud to others in the past). I look forward to starting Tolkien, whom I am not nearly as familiar with as Lewis, next week. Until then...

I had an awesome dream this morning (before being lovingly woken up by my husband at 9:00 (late for a Sat.)(he's an early riser and couldn't wait another minute for me to rise). I was with the friend I brought to the Lewis/Tolkien class and there was C.S. Lewis right in front of us. I asked my friend a question about C.S. Lewis' book Mere Christianity (picked up two from the TC sale- haven't read it yet)and Lewis heard my question and answered me directly. It was one of those dreams where you wake up so happy.... I wonder if people who have gone on before have the ability to see some things done on earth after their departure... sure makes me wonder....
