I was thinking about some of the simple things I enjoy that add just a little bit pleasure into my daily routine:
1. Tea. My most recent discovery has been English Breakfast and I feel like it has taken over for Orange Pekoe. I have enjoyed numerous different types of tea and I find that tea and a good book go hand-in-hand.
2. Daniel Lanois albums. I think that Lanois is a genius of epic proportions and a Canadian to boot! Such beautifully crafted and performed songs that make you forget he is far more legendary as a producer than a musician in his own right. None of his albums are even remotely commercial, but are a joy to listen to. Caitlin and I have a tape of his that we listen to in my car over and over and over again. Truly stunning...
3. Hot water bottles. I love the feeling of having one of these at the foot of the bed as I fall asleep in the winter. Helps alleviate the depression I feel when I think about having to get up at 6:15 to come right back to work.
4. Field of Dreams. The best baseball film even and also one of the best meditations on the importance of the father-son relationship. This movie transcends simple sports movies and is so much more. It offers hope and shows that if you choose, it is never too late to make amends with a loved one. The last scene where Kinsella asks his father "Dad do you wanna have a catch?" makes me cry every single time I see the movie (one of the few films I own on DVD).
5. Back/head rubs. My fiancee gives the best rubs of anyone I know and I lap them up whenever I can get them.
6. Even Flow (Pearl Jam). No matter what my mood, this song does it for me. I have probably listened to more incarnations of "Even Flow" than any other song (when you own 40+ PJ bootlegs you get to listen to it alot). The funky riff, the McCready guitar solo, and the passionate baritone of Ed Vedder are an irresistable combination. Do yourselves a favour and listen to the version on Rearviewmirror: The Best of Pearl Jam because it is FAR superior to the version that the band stuck on Ten. Far more raw, funky, and angry (and Dave Abbruzzese's drumming is wicked awesome).
7. Weekends. I live for them. 'Nuff said.

How about napping with a loved one on a rainy Sunday afternoon?
OR, how about giving head/back rubs to your fiancee?? Eh? EH?
Or, how about forgetting your fiancee and instead PAY to send your sister to get a head head/neck rub at a spa?? huh?huh?
i) you are right to think Daniel Lanois is a Canadian. he is one.
ii) just what are you and the fiance REALLY doing when "listening to Lanois in the car?"
