"Churched" history

Last night was the first of the new book group/bible study that I recently joined and it was both enlightening and hilarious! One of our members asked us each to talk about our church history as in where we went to church growing up etc. Some of the crazy stories that came out were surprising. I grew up in the Baptist church (as did Jaz Nassichuk) and I remember soup and 'bunwich' lunches, no dancing, no booze, and long sermons. One of our members had the whole Pentecostal 'speaking in tongues' business to deal with, while others went to church in Abbotsford...and we all know what that entails! ;) We all shared a common disdain for some elements of traditional church culture and what we saw as a lack of depth and authenticity. But at the same time we realize the value of church community and are will to hang in there and stick it out with other imperfect people such as ourselves. We are all on the journey of faith together and excited about what God will teach us as we put ourselves in the way of His will.
