a beef of mine explored more in-depth

It is extremely unimportant in the grand scheme of things, but I really hate gross historical inaccuracies in historical movies. I can still enjoy the movie, but sometimes the liberties taken and the stylized bogus plot twists are a bit much for me as a History major. Much to my delight, Yahoo Movies just posted an article on the 10 Most Historically Inaccurate Movies, which I had a good laugh reading as it was very disparaging of certain movies and actors. Enjoy!

I must admit that though I too am a history major and can get upset over inaccurate historical details, I can also enjoy entertainment. Sometimes it's great to let go and just enjoy what's on the screen in front of you. Matty has always been a little too 'mature' to allow entertainment creators to manipulate him.

However, i do find it enjoyable to learn and discuss the inaccuracies following wathcing a movie.

Out of all the movies recorded in Yahoo's list, I appreciate their last one which discusses a scifi futuristic movie that fortunately (in some ways) did not come true:

2001: A Space Odyssey
According to this film, in year 2001 we would have had manned voyages to Jupiter, a battle of wits with a sentient computer, and a quantum leap in human evolution. Instead we got the Mir Space Station falling from the sky, Windows XP, and Freddy Got Fingered. Apparently the lesson here is that sometimes it's better when the movies get the facts all wrong.

I'm unhappy if I can't buy into the movie. I can suspend belief if the story is good and engages me, but when something is blatantly wrong, it does get on the nerves.

I've only actually seen one movie on this list: Memoirs of a Geisha and I didn't like it at all. I've also tried to get through the book and couldn't, even though I know several people who Love it.

Go figure.

What do you mean "extremely unimportant in the grand scheme of things"? Historical inaccuracies are very important to point out...I do, especially when I'm out on a date :).

I love that three of the ten movies have Mel Gibson involved in some capacity. Take that Gibson, you drunken historically inaccurate bastard.

History geeks of the world unite.
