No Depression
I listened to my Uncle Tupelo compilation 89/93: An Anthology this morning and realized how much I enjoyed UT's music, though I must admit to being a far bigger fan of Jeff Tweedy's post-Tupelo outfit, Wilco. These guys were pretty much the fathers of the modern alt-country movement and their songs have a kind of Springsteen-esque, working class everyman quality to them. Plus, Tweedy's "Black Eye" pretty much puts me in tears every time I hear it--I don't really know the lyrics, but the progression and his voice are so heart-rending. Check it out...
