Hello faithful readers,
This whole 'not going to school for a month' thing is working out pretty well for me thus far. Today I have done dishes, prepared more adventurous dinner fare than normal (I enjoy cooking and it's amazing what a little extra time will do for your meal variety), listened to The Band's "Music From Big Pink" album, polished my dress shoes, cleaned Caitlin's boots, and practiced my guitar parts for the Chrismas Eve shindig at my church. All things considered, a productive day!
Albums I am digging lately: 'Euphoria Morning' by Chris Cornell, 'Hollywood Town Hall' by The Jayhawks, 'Time Out of Mind' by Bob Dylan, and 'Live at the Fillmore East' by Neil Young & Crazy Horse.
The Leafs finally won a game last night, storming back to (barely) beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-4. Despite the fact that they didn't play really well, I'll take it!
I saw the new James Bond flic, 'Casino Royale', yesterday with my friend Michael and I must say I loved it. One of the best Bonds ever and Daniel Craig was even better than expected, though I still kind of miss Brosnan. However, Craig was an excellent choice to replace him and brings some realistic grit to the character, leaving the gadget-laden stuff behind. Good call by the producers to strip the character back to his essentials and make him more like what Ian Fleming had in mind--way to revive the franchise! Hopefully the next installment will be as good!
I am looking forward to my wife coming home so that we can spend some much-needed time together. The last week we have been so busy with our individual pursuits as well as parties together that we haven't had much time to spend with one another alone. I am looking forward to a quasi date night tonight. Bye for now...

Polished your dress shoes? What are you... a librarian!
Make sure that date-night takes on the necessary elements: good food, good wine, good convo, good...
Congrats on the Leafs and keep relaxing.
Umm,
I beg to differ on this one. Is it something I ate, or can it really be that everyone seems to love the new Bond?
I, for one, am not impressed at all by this brooding new macho man, Daniel Craig. He's no Connery and that's that! Where's the class? Where's the charm? The panache? And forgive me, but watching absolutely ludicrous acrobatics masquerading as a likely chase scene for the first 15 minutes of a movie is not my idea of entertainment. And although the love story with a flesh-and-bones woman is interesting, that too is squandered on unbelievable plot twists. No, I can't say I approve of the directing. I do, however, having nothing but good things to say about the cinematography... but that's grasping at straws a little, don't you think?
The eternal critic
I have not seen the film, and therefore can't really pipe in (I may see it soon though).
However, I have heard that the new Bond captures more of the mood and attitude the author was characterizing. If that is true, then I think it's a good move.
From one who chooses accuracy and integrity over entertainment and emotion.
