Randy Hein's Lewis/Tolkien Seminar--Part IV

The fourth and final installment of Randle the Handle's Lewis/Tolkein seminar was as excellent as last week. He only seemed to get better as the weeks went on! Last night he highlighted some of the theology of LOTR, most of which I was completely unaware of, and I had many "AHA!" moments throughout the 75 minute session. I enjoyed the last 2 weeks best because of how little I knew of Tolkien compared to Lewis and this has spurred me into wanting to jump right back into the books once again. In a way I will now be reading them anew, armed with more background knowledge and filtering them through a different lens than I did before. My only hope is that one day, be it through Randy or someone else, I will get to attend a series of more in-depth lectures where there is more time to dissect the text and discuss ideas. A piece of advice I would offer to Randy: give another series like this and expand it in both time and scope because I know you've got the stuff (knowledge, passion, and charisma, not to mention baldness) and there is an audience out there for it! I pray that others of you in attendance got as much enjoyment and education out of this seminar as myself. Thanks again, Randy!!

What I like about Randy's classes is the fact that he did them. I love to see beautiful things that spring up through imagination and are shared throughout generations and history get a healthy stamp of approval. I love to see creativity and artistry being given it's rightful place. And I also like how we have our very own lifesize version of a Randypastor right here in Victoria where we live.... I might be spending a little time in middle earth myself next week considering I have a whole week off.... :)
