the tragedy of Warren Lewis
As I near the end of the main body of More Light in the Shadowlands (there are numerous, long appendices) I am struck by how unfortunate it is that Walter Hooper was able to wrestle control of the C.S. Lewis estate away from Major Warren Lewis, his older brother. Hooper was able to get major key players on his side and quietly force Warnie to the periphery as he took control of publishing and other key matters in an underhanded and fraudulent manner. Warnie wanted to publish Boxen, the stories of the imaginary world that his brother invented as a boy, but was denied by the estate. That privilege was then granted to Walter Hooper AFTER Warren Lewis passed away in 1973. He would have been enraged at this as he knew far more of the origins of the story than Hooper ever would and would have made the perfect editor for the publication rather than the bloated and completely error-filled edition that Hooper eventually put out. This C.S. Lewis intrigue continues to frustrate and anger me as I dig deeper and uncover more...
